World Petroleum Council shows interest in EXPO-2017 participation
India, New-Delhi, 28 October 2015
Based on the RoK Government Resolution on the International Specialized Exhibition EXPO-2017, KAZENERGY Association is actively attracting global energy organizations to participate in this national event.
On October 26-28, Mr. Dzhambulat Sarssenov, Deputy Chairman of WPC Kazakhstan National Committee/Deputy Chairman of Kazenergy Association attended a regular session of Executive Committee of the World Petroleum Council (WPC), the largest international organization representing interests of the global oil and gas community, held in New Delhi (India). A three-day program includes meetings of executive and program committees and WPC Board session.
Kazakhstan’s largest international project EXPO-2017 was the key report at the session stating that participation in the EXPO-2017 provides a huge opportunity to expand cooperation in the social and technological areas to implement policies preventing climate change and find solutions reducing CO2 emissions. The world-famous EXPO is one of the greatest opportunities for further strengthening of bilateral relations. The total EXPO area in Astana will occupy 174 hectares. We expect that the Exhibition be attended by more than 100 countries and 10 international organizations and nearly three million visitors. To date we have already received official confirmations from 49 countries.
WPC’s participation in the EXPO-2017 was earlier discussed at the WPC session in Calgary in 2013. As a follow-up, WPC President Renato Bertani expressed their intention to support the World Exhibition in Astana and take part by organizing a WPC specialized event for Sustainable Energy.
In addition, Dzhambulat Sarssenov provided key mechanisms ensuring the national economic prosperity that are being implemented thanks to the President Nursultan Nazarbayev’s efforts. This is primarily the “Nurly Zhol - the Path to the Future" Program embracing 90 priority economic projects with the total financial contribution equal to 9 billion US dollars. The other Program is the Silk Road Economic Belt, a commitment of two countries, Kazakhstan and China, to ensure the regional economic security. Energy supply and demand of China and Kazakhstan are highly complementary as bilateral economic and trade exchange and cooperation continue to develop, said KAZENERGY Deputy Chairman.
The broad audience also had a chance to learn more about results of geological surveys of the Kazakhstan subsoil. The vast Peri-Caspian Depression, whose major part is found in Kazakhstan, contains enormous hydrocarbon reserves. Their discovery is anticipated to double the national resource potential. In particular, a number of the world's leading oil and gas companies have already expressed interest in the Eurasia project, which provides for use of the most innovative technologies and drilling of ultra-deep well reaching a 15 kilometer depth within 2-3 years.
Further to the previous meeting the WPC Executive Committee decided to participate in the international exhibition in Astana with a separate stand and conduct the WPC event on sustainable development under the Exhibition.
As a reminder, June 2008 KAZENERGY Association joined the World Petroleum Council to represent the Kazakhstan oil and gas industry interests. WPC Membership offers maximum access to the latest information on the most advanced scientific and technological discoveries and achievements, general economic and narrowly specialized industry-specific information as well as on the current state of matters in the oil and gas industry virtually in all countries of the world.
