Tengizchevroil’s Community Investment Program – Building a Future Together
Atyrau, Kazakhstan, February 9, 2018 – Tengizchevroil’s (TCO) NGO partners under the company’s Community Investment Program (CIP), presented summaries of their 2017 performance at a Town Hall meeting held under the slogan of: “Building a Future Together”. During the meeting, CIP results were presented since it was launched in 2010, as well as detailed reports by the NGOs.
The meeting was attended by Atyrau Oblast and Zhylyoi District Akimats officials, TCO Partners, non-governmental organizations, media representatives and the company employees.
Between 2010 and 2017, TCO jointly with NGOs implemented 57 projects with a total of $6 MM, which focused on education, health, local entrepreneurship support and environmental awareness.
“At Tengizchevroil, celebrating its 25th Anniversary this year, our commitment to excellence in Corporate Responsibility guides all of our business activities”, noted Murat Mukashev, Deputy General Director of TCO. Murat Mukashev adds, “Since its formation, TCO has invested over $1.4 billion to fund social projects and programs in the Atyrau Oblast for the community and employees and we believe that this number will continue to increase based on fruitful cooperation with the Akimats of Atyrau Oblast and Zhylyoi District, local non-governmental organizations and the community”.
Annual selection of worthy NGO projects is done by TCO’s Community Investment Council, consisting of specialists from the company’s various departments. Decisions on awarding grants is done through a voting process, only after a thorough evaluation of NGO proposals based on the company’s CIP principles and compliance criteria.
“In 2017, we supported 7 projects totaling about $1 MM. But it is worthy to note that in addition to fulfilling the main purpose of the CIP program, TCO also facilitates development of capacity of local NGOs. We have successful examples, where international NGOs became TCO partners and later helped create local NGOs by transferring knowledge and skills so that they would participate competitively in future grants”, - Rzabek Artygaliev, Policy, Government and Public Affairs General Manager noted in his speech at the event.
At the event, a number of NGOs as well as TCO employee volunteers received recognition awards and memorable gifts for their great activities.
Prior to the formal presentations, the Town Hall participants had the opportunity to visit the mini-exhibitions presented by TCO’s CIP Partners who received grants in 2017. These included Independent Generation of Kazakhstan Association, Kazakhstan Association of Family Physicians (KAFP), PYXERA Global – Yntymak Atyrau, Eurasia Foundation of Central Asia (EFCA), British Council, New Information Impulse and Mugedek Alemy.
