Government of the Russian Federation prepared the protocol for the agreement with Kazakhstan about joint activities in area of geological exploration at the cross-border Imashevskoe gas condensate field, and the relevant order was signed by the Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, informs Prime.
The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources shall ensure the negotiations with the Kazakhstani party and to sign the Protocol. In September 2010, Russia and Kazakhstan signed an intergovernmental agreement on joint geological study and exploration of the Imashevskoe field.
The agreement came into force on 17th January 2011. According to the agreement, geological study and exploration of fields with the subsequent calculation of the reserves will be provided. Gazprom and KazMunaiGaz are defined as the authorized organizations for implementation of the Agreement. In April 2011, the companies signed an agreement on the appointment of the KazRosGas LLP as an operator of Imashevskoe field.
The Imashevskoe field is located 60 km to the northeast from Astrakhan in the territory of the Russian Federation and in 250 km to southwest from Atyrau in the Kurmangazy district of Kazakhstan. Its reserves are evaluated as 128, 7 billion cubic meters of gas and 20, 7 million tons of gas condensate.
