National Company "KazMunayGas" reports first oil-and-gas flow to surface has been obtained in the U-1 exploration well of the Urikhtau field when testing the K-2 carbonate rock mass.
- This discovery has become possible owing to the application of the innovative methods for seismic prospecting and well drilling, - Chairman of the Management Board of JSC NC "KazMunayGas" Kairgeldy Kabyldin mentioned. The KT-2 exploration targets discovered are not the subject of negotiations with any foreign company, the exploration works will be performed only by JSC NC "KazMunayGas", - K. Kabyldin adds. The Urikhtau oil and gas field is located on the territory of the Aktobe oblast of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 215 km south of the city of Aktobe.
Under subsoil use contract No.2882 of 5 Dec 2008, JSC NC "KazMunayGas" is carrying out exploration and production of hydrocarbons at the Urikhtau field, incl. 3D seismic acquisition and exploratory drilling. Based on the results of the seismic prospecting performed and drilling of the first U-1 exploration well, expansion of the Urikhtau structure area has been observed and high potential of the KT-2 carbonate deposits has been confirmed.
The prospective in-place hydrocarbon reserves of KT-2 are initially estimated by the specialists of JSC NC "KazMunayGas" at over 200 million tons.
JSC NC "KazMunayGas" plans to drill further 2 exploration wells with target depth of 4,000 metres (U-2 and U-3) in 2011.
