Astana
On September 7-8, 2017, Astana will host the main international event of the energy sector in the region - the 11th KAZENERGY Eurasian Forum: Securing the Future of Energy.
The Forum has been organized by the KAZENERGY Association with the support of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and will be one of the key events of the International Specialized Exhibition EXPO-2017 under the theme "Future Energy", which is taking place in Astana from June 10 to September 10, 2017. In addition, this will be a continuation of the dialogue started as part of the Ministerial Energy Conference: Meeting the Challenge of Sustainable Energy and the 8th International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development successfully held in the capital of Kazakhstan on June 11-14, 2017, under the auspices of the UN Regional Commissions.
The partners of the Forum are the largest international organizations, such as IEA, IEC, IEF, ECE, IRENA, as well as transnational oil and gas and energy companies.
The agenda of the 11th KAZENERGY Eurasian Forum will enable world’s energy companies to deliberate on issues and problems related to the effective management of sustainable energy sources; control over the production, storage and use of energy resources; access to energy sources; climate change and reduction of CO2 emissions; encouraging the use of alternative energy sources; deployment of energy efficiency programs, "smart" energy; and innovative development of uranium and nuclear industry.
The key speakers of the Forum include Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Bakytzhan Sagintayev, Minister of Energy Kanat Bozumbayev, UAE Minister of Energy Suhail Mohammed Faraj Al Mazroui, KAZENERGY’s Chairman Timur Kulibayev, WPC President Tor Fjæran, International Energy Forum’s Secretary General Dr. Sun Xiansheng, Georgian Minister of Energy Ilya Eloshvili, Deputy Chairman of the KAZENERGY Association Uzakbai Karabalin, Energy Charter’s Secretary General Urban Rusnak, IRENA’s Director General Adnan Amin and others. The leaders of the largest oil and gas and energy corporations, such as Chevron, Royal Dutch Shell, Total and many others confirmed their participation in the Forum. Most of them will take part in the interactive discussions on "Energy Transition: Security, Accessibility and Sustainability" and "Future Energy: Factors of Change and Strategies".
"The forum has been traditionally attracting interest from the Governments across the world, international energy organizations, diplomatic missions, local and foreign companies in the energy sector, research institutes and consultancies. The gathering will enable its participants to comprehend the current developments in terms of the key challenges of the future energy and should contribute to the development of the best strategies for national and international companies in the field of sustainable development", commented Bolat Akchulakov, Director General of the KAZENERGY Association.
The keynote point of the Forum will be the presentation of the KAZENERGY National Energy Report 2017 prepared in 2017 by the KAZENERGY Association in conjunction with IHS Markit. The report has been compiled on the basis of the 2015 edition, yet building on the new realities, goals and objectives identified by the Government of Kazakhstan, and is intended to provide a comprehensive idea about the current situation and prospects for the development of the basic sectors of Kazakhstan’s economy, which together make up the country's fuel and energy sector.
"The challenges that the energy sector is currently facing are changing the trajectory of action in this sector on a global scale, increasingly striving for efficiency. Now, more than ever, crucial are factors such as selectivity of investment projects, competition for new opportunities and a reduction in capital expenditures. The timeliness of the relevant decisions taken by the Government as well as the degree of their predictability is crucial", Mr. Akchulakov noted.
Apart from conventional plenary sessions, a range of sub-forum events will be delivered.
Thus, Student Energy Challenge, BRAIN RING, and the "You and Your Energy Source" Workshop will be arranged as part of the 9th Youth Forum KAZENERGY "Learning for Life".
The main topics for discussion at the 9th National Conference of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative will be the "Integration of the EITI into public systems of open data monitoring" and "Beneficial Ownership in Kazakhstan".
The 3rd Women's Energy Club Forum "Women in the Energy Sector of Kazakhstan. Expanding the Boundaries of the Future", during which the Mentoring Program will be presented, will provide a perspective at the gender policy in the energy industry of Kazakhstan.
In addition, the extensive media program will provide the Forum participants and journalists with interesting presentations, press conferences, and interviews with key speakers.
It is expected that the partnership initiatives, which are to become traditionally a part of the final Resolution, will be developed based on the results of the 11th Eurasian KAZENERGY Forum.
