Brief Analysis of the Oil and Gas Industry of Atyrau Region

Atyrau region is one of the largest industrial regions of the country and is rightfully considered a pioneer in the emergence of the oil industry in Kazakhstan. In the region, in 1899, a gush of oil at the Karashungul field flowed, which marked the beginning of the history of Kazakh oil. Commercial production began in 1911 at the Dossor field.

1979

Discovery of Tengiz field

Tengiz oil field, located on the west part of Kazakhstan, was discovered in 1979. On 18 December 1979, the first well in the field gave oil from the pre-salt formation at the depth of 4045 - 4095 meters. From beginning to mid-1980’s, drilling activities were conducted intensively on the territory of the field, and more than hundred wells were drilled.
