The Kazakh national oil and gas company KazMunayGas (KMG) did not conclude an agreement on the possible acquisition of the assets of the Russian company Lukoil in Romania, citing the company's press service.
“KMG and Lukoil are actively cooperating on a number of projects in Kazakhstan and abroad, including TCO, Zhenis, Kalamkas-Sea/Khazar, Khvalynskoye and others. At the moment, no documents on the possible acquisition of Lukoil's assets in Romania by KMG or KMG International have been signed," the company's response to an inquiry from Interfax-Kazakhstan says.
Earlier, one of the Moldovan media, citing sources in the business circles of Moldova and Romania, reported on the possibility of buying the Romanian assets of Lukoil by KazMunayGas due to the sanctions imposed by the EU countries on the trade in Russian oil, which also affect the business of the Russian company in Romania and Moldova. It was noted that negotiations between representatives of KMG and Lukoil were held in Moscow, but nothing is known about their results. KazMunayGas is Kazakhstan's national operator for the exploration, production, processing and transportation of hydrocarbons, representing the interests of the state in the oil and gas industry.
KMG International (former Rompetrol holding) was acquired by KazMunayGas in 2007. The company owns two refineries in Romania Petromidia and Vega, as well as a network of filling stations in the EU.
