JSC NC KazMunayGas has obtained a positive conclusion of the state expert examination on the feasibility study for the project “Gas Refinery in the Western Kazakhstan region”.
The next stage – the stage of elaboration of the design estimates planned for 2013-2014 – will be carried out with participation of the Kazakhstan design organizations the selection of which will be completed in late January 2013. “The enterprise will be of great significance for developing the region and the Kazakhstan’s oil and gas industry on the whole. At the stage of construction it is planned to involve 3500 persons that will be an essential contribution to the region’s employment. At the stage of exploitation, the number of personnel will comprise about 700,” informed Nurlan Balgimbayev, general director of KMG’s Unit for implementation of projects.
The gas refinery with an annual capacity of 5 billion cubic meters will process sulphureous associated hydrocarbon gas extracted from the Karachaganak field.
The main aims of the gas refinery are to produce commodity gas for Kazakhstani consumers and increase reliability of gas supply from own sources, to provide northern and central regions, including Astana, with commodity gas, and to provide a possibility to sell gas on the foreign market. The construction of the plant’s first turn is planned to occur in 2014-2019 and the second turn – in 2021-2023.
