The director of "Technologies Project" course of the Royal Dutch Shell Plc concern, Matthias Bihsel, says, “Shell has developed a ‘roadmap’ of technological development of the oil and gas industry in Kazakhstan," Interfax-Kazakhstan.
At the 26th plenary meeting of the Foreign Investors Council under the President of Kazakhstan, M. Bihsel noted in his report: "In 2011, at the 24th plenary meeting of the board of investors, you supported Shell’s initiative to prepare a ‘road map’ of technological development. The scope and scale of the work collectively done over the last two years can rightly be called outstanding. Today, I am proud to present the important results that have been achieved by an industry working together with universities and research institutions in the creation of the ‘road map’ of scientific and technological development of the producing sector of the oil and gas industry of Kazakhstan. "
"There have been 15 priority technology challenges identified. Subject to the implementation of appropriate technologies, solving within the required time specified 15 priority technology challenges can bring significant benefits. Preliminary evaluation shows that the solution to every technology challenge can give a financial benefit of between $ 2 billion to $ 7.5 billion, and the total benefit could reach tens of billions of dollars," he said.
"Mr. President, now that we have identified opportunities, we must begin to implement them. Specific result can be obtained only with the joint efforts and commitment of the industry, the scientific community and the government. Companies represented in the council may in turn take on a leadership role. Shell is ready to give a lead, by being the first one to do it in 2013," he said. "Our company is ready to contribute to the realization of one of the topical ‘road map’ in order to address one of the priority technological challenges. We plan to do this in conjunction with KazMunayGas, currently we are conducting a discussion on this issue," he informed.
