June 2014ExxonMobil contributes to development of local geoscience by sharing its subsurface expertise
ASTANA, KAZAKHSTAN – On 18-19 June 2014, ExxonMobil Kazakhstan Inc., a local subsidiary of the Exxon Mobil Corporation (ExxonMobil) held a Carbonate Reservoir Characterization Workshop for a group of geoscientists from the KazMunayGas National Company, KMG Kashagan B.V., PSA LLP, Committee of Geology under the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies and the North Caspian Operating Company (NCOC).
The interactive seminar covered carbonate depositional systems, diagenesis and reservoir quality, as well as geology interpretation from well logs, reservoir rock types and reservoir models. The workshop was led by three senior ExxonMobil technical experts.
As new carbonate reservoirs are discovered and developed, it is becoming imperative for experts to upgrade carbonate-related knowledge and skills. In turn, the workshop has been an efficient ground where ExxonMobil’s experts and the RoK companies had a chance to share their best practices.
Discussion of carbonate reservoirs continued at the ExxonMobil-sponsored lecture by one of the speakers for a broader audience of the Astana Chapter, Society of Petroleum Engineers. The lecture drew interest of young professionals from national and international companies and students of the Nazarbayev University. SHARING ITS SUBSURFACE EXPERTISE
