Kazakhstan has introduced a ban on the export of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by road and rail from November 14, 2023 for a period of six months, according to the order of the Ministry of Energy.

“Introduce a ban on the export of liquefied petroleum gas, propane and butane from the territory of Kazakhstan by road and rail for a period of six months,” the document says.

The ban does not apply to subsoil users producing LPG under production sharing agreements or a subsoil use contract approved by the President of Kazakhstan and with a stable tax regime.

This order will come into force on the date of official publication.

The ban should help provide the domestic market with liquefied petroleum gas to eliminate its shortage.

LPG exports from Kazakhstan for seven months of 2023 amounted to about 510,000 tonnes. The product was supplied to Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, Poland, as well as through the ports of Batumi and Temryuk to Turkiye, according to forwarders.
