The transition period of Kazakhstan's accession to the World Trade Organization has ended
On the first day of 2021, the so-called "local content" in Kazakhstan's oil and gas projects went down in history. The fetish of the last two decades, trumpeting which, the Government imitated the departure from the commodity dependence of the Kazakhstani economy.
Transition to where?
Refusal of preferences to domestic producers-suppliers of the oil and gas industry was one of the conditions for Kazakhstan's accession to the World Trade Organization. The complex negotiations lasted for 19 years, during which the legislation and international agreements ratified by Kazakhstan were systematically amended to comply with existing WTO standards fully. According to the discussion participants, it was one of the most challenging negotiations in the World Trade Organization history.
