As part of the President Nazarbayev's 2018 Address implementation, authorized governmental agencies were assigned to develop a new Environmental Code. The work began in June 2018 and was completed in November 2020. 

 

At least six versions were considered in the course of the new Environmental Code preparation. Key expert reviews of the draft Code – scientific-and-legal, environmental, linguistic, and scientific-and economic – were conducted to eliminate possible flaws in the future Environmental Code.
