Kazakhstan Maritime Academy Opening Ceremony
May 24, 2013 the ringing of a traditional ship’s bell marked the start of a world-class maritime academy in Almaty. Tengizchevroil LLP (TCO) is the founder of the Kazakhstan Maritime Academy (KMA). The KMA official opening ceremony was attended by the representatives of state authorities, members of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, TCO Partners’ senior management, the public and media.
“The Kazakhstan Maritime Academy supports the government’s objective to develop the Caspian region. The KMA will produce highly-skilled, internationally accepted Kazakhstani maritime deck and engineering officers,” said Tim Miller, TCO General Director. “As one of the largest exporters in Kazakhstan, TCO understands the importance of highly-qualified maritime professionals available in the oil and gas industry. That’s why TCO has become the KMA founding sponsor. The KMA opening coincides with the 20th anniversary of TCO, which has made significant contributions to the Kazakhstani economy.” Miller said.
The Kazakhstan Maritime Academy was established by order of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan to support the increasing offshore oil and gas developments and to generate employment opportunities outside of the traditional oil and gas sector. The Kazakhstan Maritime Academy was created under the auspices of the Kazakh-British Technical University which is best positioned to meet the objectives of the academy. KBTU is the leading university in the country that has been internationally accredited. It has partnerships with a number of international universities and has the required infrastructure. The KMA academic program started in August 2012. All the courses are delivered in English. The KMA cadets will complete their sea training both in the Caspian Sea and internationally.
