ExxonMobil contributes to development of local geoscience by sharing its subsurface expertise
ASTANA, KAZAKHSTAN – On 18-19 June 2014, ExxonMobil Kazakhstan Inc., a local subsidiary of the Exxon Mobil Corporation (ExxonMobil) held a Carbonate Reservoir Characterization Workshop for a group of geoscientists from the KazMunayGas National Company, KMG Kashagan B.V., PSA LLP, Committee of Geology under the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies and the North Caspian Operating Company (NCOC).

On June 11 2014, North Caspian Sea PSA (NCSPSA) co-venturers and the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with respect to the potential progression of future phases of development and production of the Kashagan project, including agreement to discuss Kazakhstani content and industrial capabilities.

The transition of the Kashagan project from development to production operations provides an opportunity to further integrate and consolidate operator and agent activities to position the venture for future NCSPSA resource development. A contract for construction of “IndoxSamruk Kazakhstan” industrial complex was signed in Aktau. The company will be located in the territory of the free economic zone “Aktau Seaport" and will be focused on the creation of petroleum products, liquefied and compressed gases equipment. "IndoxSamruk Kazakhstan" is a joint project of Samruk-Kazyna invest and Indox Cry Energy Overseas Ltd (Spain).

Kazakhstan has lost $1.2 billion due to reduction of oil exports. This was declared by the General director of “Center for development of trade policy” JSC of the Ministry of Economy and Budget Planning of the RoK, Ruslan Sultanov. “In terms of imports-exports dynamics, we have seen a slight drop in exports compared to the year 2012”.
Kashagan
It will take about two years to replace the pipes at the Kashagan field, where oil production has been stopped due to a gas leak two weeks after the start of the operation, said Minister of Oil and Gas of Kazakhstan Uzakbai Karabalin. “I expect it will take up to two years (to replace the pipes)”, Karabalin told Reuters.

Vagit Alekperov, President of OJSC LUKOIL, signed the sale and purchase agreement, according to which LUKOIL sells 50% of its participating share in the Caspian Investment Resources Ltd to Sinopec, China. The price of saleable shares will be set around $ 1.2 billion and is subject to a number of adjustments at the date of transaction completion.
