KMG International, part of KazMunayGas, is resuming operation of a petrochemical plant at its Romanian Petromidia refinery. According to the national company, polyethylene will be produced from May, but the exact date of resumption of production is not specified.
"The low-density polyethylene (LDPE) production plant has resumed operation at the Petromidia oil refinery, owned by KMG International Group. Through the reintegration of the LDPE plant into the petrochemical complex of the Petromidia refinery, the company intends to strengthen its position as the only national polymer producer in Romania.… With a design capacity of 75,000 tonnes per year, the LDPE plant will start producing products used for the production of shrink, agricultural and thin packaging films, as well as durable packages from May this year," the published message says.
The national company notes that since the beginning of 2025, there has been an increase in demand for petrochemical products in the European market. In this regard, the management of KMG International has decided to resume the production of low-density polyethylene in Romania. This measure will contribute to the further growth of KMGI's production and financial performance, as well as allow it to regain leadership in the polymer market in the region, the company believes. In total, KMG International plans to produce more than 145 thousand tonnes of polymers in 2025.
