On September 30, the presidents of Russian Federation and Kazakhstan, Vladimir Putin and Nursultan Nazarbayev, launched the joint project Eurasia in Atyrau, which stipulates drilling of the super deep well. The leaders of two countries launched the project, using the symbolic keys; it is expected to discover the hydrocarbon accumulation at the depth of, approximately, 7- 9 kilometres in Pre-Caspian Depression area.
Uzakbai Karabalin, First Vice Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan, told the Presidents that this region, according to the geologists, “concentrates about 80% hydrocarbon resources of Kazakhstan”. According to Baltabek Kuandykov, Coordinator of Eurasia Project, in the nearest months it is planned to create a consortium for the project fulfilment. “Project implementation will begin in the next year”, - said Mr.Kuandykov.
According to him, the Project is rated for duration of 5 years and is estimated, approximately, at 500 million dollars. As explained by Mr.Kuandykov, such companies as LUKOIL, Rosneft as well as the Western partners (“indispensable since they have technologies and experience in doing such work”) shown an interest in participating in the Project. Among the Western companies, he named Shell, Chevron and etc.; the negotiations with them are in progress. As the Coordinator told, the suggested well depth is 15 km. 30% of the territory of Pre-Caspian Depression is situated within the Russian borders.
