XII International Youth Scientific and Practical Congress «Oil and Gas Horizons»
From 18 to 20 November the XII International Youth Scientific and Practical Congress «Oil and Gas Horizons» was held in an online format. This congress is organized annually by the University Student Section of the International Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). This year, the Congress was attended by 128 students, postgraduates and young professionals from 43 universities from 15 countries, including: Algeria, Azerbaijan, Colombia, Germany, Hungary, Indonesia, Iran, Lebanon, Mexico, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Venezuela and Russia.
The «Oil and Gas Horizons» Congress is the largest international platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience of Oil and Gas Industry specialists from all over the world. This year, due to the difficult epidemiological situation in the world, the Congress was held in full online format for the first time.
The Congress began with the opening ceremony, at which the following speakers welcomed the participants: The Chief organizer of the Congress - Anastasia Kritinina, Vice-Rector for Scientific and International Affairs, Head of Tashkent Branch, «Gubkin University» - Alexander Maksimenko, Director of Drilling Services, Baker Hughes - Alexander Monahov, Vice-president of marketing for Schlumberger, Russia and Central Asia - Artem Karapetov, SPE Regional Director of Russia and the Caspian region - Ignaty Volnov, CEO, Salym Petroleum Development N.V. - Michael Collins, President of SPE International 2020 - Shona Noonan, Director of the Moscow SPE Section - Anton Ablaev, The Student Affairs Chairman of the Moscow SPE Section - Anar Ermukhambetova, Senior Regional Activities Specialist - Yaroslava Orlova.
The Congress continued with a main report from Andrey Alekseev, Director of Strategy and marketing of Baker Hughes, and a Plenary Session opened by Nikita Nikolaevich Golunov, Vice-Rector for Continuing Professional Education, Head of the Department of Gas and Oil Pipelines Engineering and Operation, Gubkin University. Further, the Plenary Session was attended by Artem Karapetov, Vice-president of marketing for Schlumberger, Russia and Central Asia, Veronika Bubenok, OFS HR Director of Baker Hughes, Russia/CIS, Mikhail Erchenkov, Head of Landmark Halliburton Eurasia, and Michael Collins, CEO, Salym Petroleum Development N.V. The Plenary Session was moderated by Schneider Group Project Manager - Marat Tukhvatullin. Then a meeting of the Russian National Committee of the World Petroleum Council was held, where the results of the Mentoring project 2019-2020 cycle were summed up.
Within the framework of the «Oil and Gas Horizons» program, three technical lectures were held, the speakers of which were specialists from various Oil and Gas Companies. Alexander Kuvichko, RCA DELFI Product Manager of Schlumberger, spoke on the topic “On Development of Machine Learning Applications in Cognitive Environments”. Oksana Shevchenko, Leading Engineer of the Department for Design and Monitoring of Development of the Southern Region of the LLC «VolgogradNIPImorneft», addressed the participants with the topic “The mathematical model of the filtration process in horizontal wells for the high viscosity oil fields”. Denis Kachesov, Main architector, LLC "Gazpromneft Information Technology Operator", told the participants «How digital transformation can improve oil industry». In addition to the technical component, Soft Skill Training was held, where Olga Myasoedova, Coordinator for the selection of personnel and work with the university, and Alexander Nekrasov, Talent acquisition and brand manager, spoke about employment in the Schlumberger Company, and about the correct preparation of a resume.
35 representatives of universities took part in International and Regional Round Tables (Russia and the Caspian region). This allowed the participants to share their ideas and projects, and get tips from the Senior Regional Activities Specialist - Yaroslava Orlova and The Student Affairs Chairman of the Moscow SPE Section- Anar Ermagambetova.
The Technical Case for the Congress participants was organized and conducted by Oil Case Company this year. The Intellectual Game PetroOlympic Games organized by activists of the SPE Student Section was held as well. These events allowed participants not only to test their knowledge, but also to try to solve pressing problems of the Oil and Gas Industry.
The main event of the Congress was Technical Sessions, where students presented their reports in eight sections: Geosciences; Drilling and Completion; Oil and Gas Field Development; Oil and Gas Logistics, Storage and Transportation; Oil and Gas Chemistry; Health, Safety and Environment; Petroleum Economics and Management; “Smart” technologies. There were also two sessions for PhD students and Young Professionals: the section of PhD and Young Professionals Paper Contest Upstream and the section of PhD and Young Professionals Paper Contest Midstream and Downstream. The Congress included a School Section that gave students of 9-11th grades all over Russia the opportunity to present their research papers as part of the Energy4me educational program. This year, 98 students, postgraduates and young professionals, as well as 22 schoolchildren from 20 cities of Russia, took part in the Technical Session, students of secondary schools and specialized classes of Gazprom and Novatek also took part in it.
At the end of the Congress, the winners of the Technical Sessions, Intellectual Game and Technical Case were announced. Also The Chief organizer of the Congress - Anastasia Kritinina, Vice-Rector for Scientific and International Affairs, Head of Tashkent Branch, «Gubkin University» - Alexander Maksimenko, Sr. Director - PC Integrated Services of Baker Hughes - David Gadzhimirzaev, Chief Technical Officer, GEOSPLIT- Kirill Ovchinnikov, The Student Affairs Chairman of the Moscow SPE Section - Anar Ermukhambetova, Senior Regional Activities Specialist - Yaroslava Orlova and Assistant to the rector for international affairs - Vlada Streletskaya spoke at the closing ceremony of the Congress.
