SPE’s Annual Caspian Technical Conference is Going Virtual for 2021
London, UK (14 July 2021) – Following discussions with our key stakeholders, it has been decided that this year’s SPE Annual Caspian Technical Conference will now take place as a virtual event instead of an in-person conference in Baku.
With so many uncertainties still surrounding the global pandemic, including restrictions on travel and access to visas, there was little option but to make the transition to a virtual conference. While the format is changing, the objectives for holding the conference will continue to be about bringing together oil and gas professionals in Azerbaijan and the Caspian region to discuss the latest technical developments and to promote the region as a hub for technical innovation and expertise in the oil and gas sector.
Despite the physical event not running this year, the new format will open up the event to an even wider audience who will be able to access the technical programme without travel restrictions. In addition, for the first time, instead of the usual delegate fee, SPE will be allowing free access to the event made possible only through the continued support of our sponsors.
The oil and gas industry has been hit hard since the outbreak of COVID-19 in early 2020. The consequences of the pandemic will be felt throughout oil and gas global supply chains and ripple into other parts of the energy sector. Other impacts such as changing working practices and the transition towards a low-carbon, more diversified and resilient economic future has placed an increased focus on the application and viability of new technologies.
As with the 2020 Caspian Technical Conference, which successfully ran as a virtual event, the conference will include the full 2021 technical programme and all panel sessions as well as the other features that were planned for the in-person event including the Regional Student Development Summit. This year we will be using a new virtual interface which will provide enhanced networking opportunities, 1 to 1 communication, live Q&A sessions and an AI match-making tool to align attendee's directly with their interest area and provide beneficial targeted engagement opportunities.
Being a recognised international platform and a key event for the Caspian oil and gas industry, the SPE conference annually brings together high-level speakers and participants to discuss key oil and gas projects in the region. This year the conference features an extensive technical programme covering a wide variety of topics. The three plenary panel topics include: Unlocking Value through New Technology and Digitalisation; Attracting and Retaining Talent in a Challenging Market and Maximising Efficiencies in Today’s Evolving Landscape.
