The Quality of Life From KPO
Being guided by a Final Production Sharing Agreement and a feeling of social responsibility before the region in which the company operates, the partners in the international consortium Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V. (KPO) make large-scale investments into social infrastructure of the Kazakhstan’s Aral region.
To the main priorities in implement- ing social programmes refer the sphere of education. Of nine planned schools four have been successfully completed. The others are either put in operation, or currently are nearing completion by the end of this year. The schools have been fully furnished and equipped with all necessary equip- ment, furniture, office equipment and teaching aids.
One of the recent gifts of KPO to the children in the Aral region is the school for 1200 pupils located in the most densely populated northeast part of Uralsk. The school is equipped with a lift, a canteen, an infirmary, a conference room, a library and an amenity block. “This is the third school which we build on KPO’s means,” says Yerden- bek Akhmetov, director of a local contractor Zhaikselstroy LLP.
“The area of building is 15 000 square meters. The school consists of five blocks, equipped with 48 classes, a conference hall, a sporting facility, a library, a canteen, and an infirmary. The school’s territory occupies four hectares. We are cooperating with KPO for already 10 years.
It is a very exacting customer, and only qualified professionals can correspond to its requirements.” The construction of schools is made also in remote areas. For example, in the Akzhaik district KPO has financed the construction of two schools at once – in the settlements of Aksuat for 230 pupils and in Saikuduk – for 198. This is a long-awaited event for the rural inhabitants because earlier the children studied at schools built more than half a century ago. In Аksuat the school is named after a notable horse breeder, the Hero of Socialist Labor Sultan Oshanov. He was awarded a high rank of the Hero in the hard post- war years. His dynasty was continued by his son Yesekesh Sultanov, who also was awarded several orders for achievements in animal husbandry.
The new school will certainly pre- serve its former name. According to the school’s director Dauren Nur- gozhin, everything will be provided in the new building to conduct education on modern technologies. “The best conditions will be cre- ated for children at the new school,” says Yesekesh Sultanov. We hope that this will give the pupils more chances of achieving at school. It is very cor- rect that modern schools are opened everywhere.
