Celebrating 30 Years of ExxonMobil’s Transformative Partnership with Kazakhstan
This year, ExxonMobil celebrates a momentous milestone - 30 years in Kazakhstan. This remarkable journey is not just a testament to corporate longevity; it signifies a deep-rooted and mutually beneficial partnership that has significantly contributed to Kazakhstan's economic development and energy landscape.

In 1993, a mere two years after Kazakhstan declared its independence, ExxonMobil took its first step into this promising energy sector by joining the KazakhstanCaspiShelf, which later became North Caspian Consortium. This marked the beginning of an enduring partnership that has continued to flourish over the decades.
By 1997, ExxonMobil had further solidified its commitment by acquiring a 25% stake in the Tengizchevroil joint venture (TCO). This partnership unlocked the vast potential of the Tengiz oil field, making it a cornerstone of Kazakhstan's energy sector. Additionally, ExxonMobil entered the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC), securing a 7.5% stake.
ExxonMobil has a 16.81% interest in the North Caspian Production Sharing Agreement (NCPSA) that includes the giant Kashagan field.
Another significant achievement came in 1997 when ExxonMobil joined the North Caspian Sea Production Sharing Agreement (NCSPSA), a consortium of partners whose combined efforts enabled the commercialization of Kashagan field through technological innovations, positioning it as a major contributor to Kazakhstan's energy production.
