Oftum: bright world without lenses and eyeglasses
According to statistics, today every third resident of the planet before 30 years of age suffers from myopia. This is the payback of humankind for the blessings of civilization that we use in the twenty-first century. However, scientific and technological progress does not stand still. And now in Astana with the latest pain-free operating technology it is possible to regain 100% vision in a matter of minutes.
Operating methods in the treatment of myopia have been applied for quite a while. As early as late 90’s the Kazakh and Russian doctors have begun performing laser correction surgeries, allowing patients to regain the acuity of vision. The vision correction procedure in Astana using ReLEx SMILE technology is performed by femtosecond laser VisuMax, with this operation, unlike previous technologies, does not require the formation of a flap on the cornea - meaning that large incision is not made on cornea, corneal tissue is not burned out - lenticula in the cornea is formed by microscopic bubbles, the structure of the cornea is preserved. The surgery is absolutely painless and with rapid effect of acute vision.
ReLEx SMILE represents the most modern and most advanced operational technique developed by scientists of the Carl Zeiss company. It is fast, painless, maximally sparing and safe. When applying this technique, using femtosecond laser VisuMaxcorneal curvature changes in such a manner that the microscopic lens (lenticula) is formed in the cornea, which is extracted from the cornea through the microscopic incision 2 mm in length. As a result, dioptric power of the cornea changes to the exactly calculated value required to restore 100% visual acuity. Laser work itself lasts only 26 seconds, and the visual acuity returns the next day. This method is ideal for patients with myopia and myopic astigmatism (negative diopters). For patients with hyperopia (distance positive diopters) clinic’s specialists recommend using Femto Lasik method.
Oftum Astana clinic recommends its patients, without contraindications, ReLEx SMILE method, because it combines all the benefits of previous operational methods: painlessness and rapid occurrence of the results, achieved using the method with flap – femtolasik, together with gentle ability of PRK method, because it does not require the formation of the flap. Thus, nerve fibers in the fore-part of the cornea are not damaged, which are important for its sensitivity and for the formation of tears.
The front third of the cornea forms a specific frame - “roof” of the whole hemispherical structure. It is important for the nutrition of the cornea and its durability. The incision on the edge of the flap in the case of the femtolasik method applied considerably breaks it, and it will never heal as firmly as it was before. ReLEx SMILE method modifies the curvature “under this solid roof” of the cornea, that is why it does not break such a large number of nerve fibers, and “roof” structure remains. On the cornea only a trace remains after microsurgical interference, not more than 3 millimetres in length.
Convenience and comfort
Oftum Astana clinic provides all its patients a lifetime warranty for the performed correction of the cornea. If necessary, any medical manipulations in the future will be carried out free of charge. In the clinic emphasise that the warranty covers the result of the cornea correction in particular. If in the future the change of visual acuity happens on another part of the eye, such as, age-related changes of the crystalline lens, then this of course is not covered by warranty). After the surgery the doctor conducts the inspection and follow-up examination until the moment when the visual acuity is fully recovered.
