In accordance with the signed agreement, the Settlement and Financial Centre for RES intends to purchase and accept from the joint Project Company TotalEren, Samruk-Kazyna and KazMunayGas electrical energy generated by a wind power plant with a capacity of 1,000 MW.
The uniqueness of the WPP project lies in the fact that for the first time in Kazakhstan a wind power plant will be supplemented with an electricity storage system.
Recall that on November 30, 2022, in the presence of the head of state, a Special Agreement was signed between the Government of Kazakhstan and the Government of the French Republic on the implementation of cooperation in the field of combating global warming. The document is aimed at strengthening long-term bilateral cooperation in the field of energy and applies to large projects implemented on the territory of Kazakhstan in the field of renewable energy sources and green technologies.
One of such large projects planned for implementation under the Agreement will be the construction of a wind power plant with a capacity of 1 GW with an energy storage system with a capacity of 300 MW-600 MWh in the Zhambyl region (settlement Mirny).
The partner in the Project from the French side will be Total Eren S.A with a share of 60%, from the Kazakh side Samruk-Kazyna and KazMunayGas, 20% each.
The capacity of the Project is equal to 50% of the total volume of all renewable energy facilities put into operation in Kazakhstan to date. This will bring Kazakhstan significantly closer to achieving the goal of increasing the share of renewable energy to 15% in electricity generation by 2030.
