Asian Gas Pipeline LLP in which equal shares belong to the national gas transportation company KazTransGas and Chinese Trans-Asia Gas Pipeline Limited, subsidiary of CNPC, has started to elaborate a fesibility study for the construction project of the third thread of the Kazakhstan site of the transnational gas pipeline Turkmenistan - Uzbekistan - Kazakhstan - China with a throughput capacity of up to 25 billion cubic meters of natural gas a year. Designing is planned to complete in February-March. Then, the decision will be taken on the project implementation: financing and building. A third thread is planned to build by the end of 2012.
The demand for designing and building the third thread has arisen in connection with availability of the free volumes of natural gas in the Central Asian countries.
The cost of construction can exceed $1 billion, however it will depend on the demand for compressor stations.
