The construction of the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) terminal has been completed in the port of Midia at a total cost of about $3.8 million, is underlined in the message of NC KazMunayGas. According to the document, the terminal on transhipment of oil and liquefied gas on mooring 9 of the port of Midia, belongs to Rompetrol Rafinare and possesses a maximum throughput capacity of about 3 000 tons with a direct joining to the oil refinery's two storehouses of liquefied petroleum gas (about 3.6 thousand cubic meters).
"The terminal is part of The Rompetrol Group's strategy aimed at increasing the export and import capacities of the Petromidia platform. New investments should provide reduction in expenses by more than 20 % connected with the import and export of liquefied petroleum gas. Also the terms of cargoes deliveries and the amount of operations needed for this will be reduced," commented Arman Kairdenov, general manager of Rompetrol Rafinare.
As a result of mooring's modernisation, the capacity of finished goods shipment has been increased by 350 % (from 90 000 tons/month to 310 000 tons/month) with the conditions created for mooring sea vessels with a deadweight of 10 000 tons and tank barges with a deadweight of 2 000 tons.
The works under LPG terminal construction were conducted within 14 months by Rominserv, general contractor of The Rompetrol Group, which also in September-November of the last year co-ordinated general works on technical maintenance of Rompetrol Rafinare and Rompetrol Petrochemicals. "The terminal will be operated by Sea Terminal Midia that will promote the fulfilment of tasks of The Rompetrol Group on developing a supply network of liquefied petroleum gas both for household purposes and for using vehicles in Romania and Moldova," added A. Kairdenov.
