KazMunayGas is close to buying Lukoil filling stations in Romania. This was reported in a review of the Romanian media romania-insider.com with reference to the publication Ziarul Financiar.
KazMunayGas, which owns the Romanian Rompetrol group and the largest oil refinery in Romania (Petromidia), has reportedly reached an agreement with Russia's Lukoil group to acquire filling stations in Romania. It is not entirely clear whether the deal covers all 315 Lukoil stations in Romania. At the end of 2022, the Shell group was among those interested in the Lukoil filling station network. The 315 filling stations, as indicated on the Lukoil Romania website, have very good locations, some of them right in the city centres, which also makes them interesting as future locations for filling electric vehicles.
The report states that the deal may resolve the issue of KazMunayGas' commitment to expand Rompetrol's gas station network in Romania.
The Dutch subsidiary of KazMunayGas, KMG International, through 54.63% of the shares of Rompetrol Rafinare, owns controlling shares in the Romanian refineries Vega and Petromidia and the distribution network of fuels and lubricants in Europe, Turkey and Georgia.
The remaining shares of 44.7% and 0.7% each belong to the Romanian government and public investors. Last year, a KMG subsidiary borrowed $25 million from OTP Bank to expand and develop filling stations in Romania.
