Oil and gas company BP refused to develop the Kalamkas-sea, Bolshoy Zhambyl and Zhemchuzhnaya blocks, with reference to the national company KazMunayGas.
According to the company, the decision to withdraw from the negotiation process for the development of the Kalamkas-Sea, Zhemchuzhnaya and Bolshoi Zhambyl projects is related to the revision of the company's strategy. BP intends to focus its activities on renewable energy sources. It is noted that KMG and BP signed a Memorandum of Understanding in May 2019. The companies also discussed the possibility of implementing a number of projects in the Kazakhstani sector of the Caspian Sea.
Earlier, the head of KMG Alik Aidarbayev asked the government for further support in acquiring subsoil use projects and attracting strategic partners in the Al-Farabi and Kalamkas-Sea-Khazar offshore blocks, as well as in a number of onshore subsoil areas.
