Year in Review: Oil, Gas, Petrochemicals, and Local Content
The Ministry of Energy summed up the results of the work of the oil and gas industry in 2021 during the extended board meeting. According to the results of 2021, 85.9 mln tons of oil were produced in Kazakhstan; the plan for 2022 is 87.5 mln tons. Of this volume, 67.6 mln tons of oil were exported (the goal for 2022 is 69 mln tons). The petroleum products production volume amounted to 12.7 mln tons.

How Can We Activate Geological Exploration?
According to the estimates of the reputable consulting company IHS Markit, presented in the National Energy Report of 2021, as of the end of 2020, the residual proven and prospective (2P) oil reserves in Kazakhstan amounted to 26.5 bln barrels (about 3.44 bln tons). At the same time, their volume did not change significantly compared to the estimate for 2019 since no large fields were discovered during this period.
