Of the fifteen KAZENERGY Forums held initially annually and then biennially, I have participated in fourteen. This gave me a firsthand view of how the agenda in the industry evolved over the years. Just a month ago in Astana, the milestone XV Forum took place, coinciding with Kazakhstan Energy Week—a highlight we discuss in this issue.

The offshore Caspian project, Kalamkas-Sea, Khazar, Auezov, agreed upon for joint implementation by KazMunayGaz and Lukoil, is expected to enter the project documentation phase in the fourth quarter of the current year, as revealed by the head of KMG, Magzum Mirzagaliyev. He noted that the procedures for forming the project operator, Kalamkas-Khazar Operating LLP, are nearing completion.

On his 71st birthday, Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin celebrated on October 7 at his suburban residence, Novo-Ogaryovo, accompanied by the presidents of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. He greeted them in the new domestic off-roader, the Aurus Komendant, even offering a brief tour around the residence grounds.

Development Potential of Petrochemistry in Kazakhstan

Currently, Kazakhstan's oil and gas chemistry is in its formative stages. The republic has already established and operates a number of manufacturing facilities, including plants producing polypropylene, lubricants, gasoline additives, among others. On November 8, 2022, the head of state inaugurated one of the largest factories of its kind in the CIS countries – a polypropylene production plant located in the Atyrau region with an annual capacity of 500,000 tons. This state-of-the-art facility currently has the capability to produce up to 65 grades of polypropylene.

June 1, KMG PetroChem (a subsidiary of KazMunayGas) and Tengizchevroil signed the principal terms of agreements required to implement the Gas Separation Complex (GSC) project. The GSC, with a capacity of 9.1 bln cubic meters of dry gas per year, will be constructed at the Tengiz field. The GSC is an infrastructure designed to produce ethane used as raw material at the polyethylene plant (the "Polyethylene" project).

July 1, Alibek Zhamauv was appointed as the Deputy Minister of Energy. Born in 1981 in Atyrau, he graduated from Suleyman Demirel University and Satpayev KazNTU. He began his career at Agip Kazakhstan Caspian Operating Co. and later worked at Zhambyl Petroleum LLP. Between 2019-2020, he was the head of the technical group of PSA LLP. Since May 2020, he has been serving as the Deputy General Director of PSA LLP.

Over 6 years of activities of the financial centre, more than 2,000 organizations have been successfully registered with the AIFC. In most cases, investors opt for a "private company" (the "Private Company"), an organizational legal form of a newly established legal entity. As of today, there are 1,867 registered private companies.
